Peyote: scientific: Lophophora williamsii. A spineless cacti.
Important in certain American Indian religious ceremonies, a federal
permit is required to possess any part of the plant. It has almost
been eliminated here in Texas. It has also been used for medicinal
purposes: to fight fevers; rheumatism; poultice for snakebite and open
wounds; and as a painkiller. Its use dates back to the Aztecs.
