threat of exotics in the natural landscape

Read something interesting in a seed catalogue about native species being
fairly resistant to intrusion from introduced species, SO LONG AS THEIR
ENVIRONMENT IS STABLE AND UNDISTURBED -- ie., a field of native grasses
growing right alongside a fencerow full of chinese tallow trees, without
any seedling intruding into the field. California natives are vulnerable
to invasive species because so much of the state's original landscape
has been turned head-over-heels.
