Post-Graduate Research Position
Department of Nematology
University of California, Riverside

A post-graduate research position at the B.S. or M.S. level is available to
help set up a new lab and to conduct research in different aspects of
root-knot nematode resistance . The research in the lab is aimed at
studying the signal transduction pathway leading to tomato resistance to
root-knot nematodes. Root-knot nematodes are obligate parasites of plants,
and resistance in tomato to these nematodes is conferred by a single
dominant gene, Mi. Research responsibilities include marker analysis
(RFLP, SCAR, and AFLP) and screening mutagenized resistant tomato
population for nematode susceptibility. Knowledge of molecular biology and
genetics, and experience with basic molecular biology techniques are
required. Previous experience with plant-parasitic nematodes is not
necessary.
