People wherever they are, and esp in the countries where now so many are
starving, should learn to not destroy the vegetation that existed.
Clearing off everything has ended up in desertification. No one can grow
without water.

Trmendous effort has been put out by persons trying to create greenery ins
arid states like that. One of the best was that of a British woman, who
died in an accident before she could finish her work, but she started to
grow a greenbelt straight across the Sahara. I have the little book
describing her work, and a letter from her written shortly before she
died. Wendy Campbell-Purdie. She did it all on her own, with sometimes
money donated. The main trouble was that people kept goats and these
animals ate the little plants she set out.
