need help with root culture

hi there,

Does anybody have a protocol or reference on how to make root culture.  I
don't know much about plants but I was told it looks just like roots,
except it's floating in some solution.  I would need to have the roots in
a sealed container so it can't be hydroponic plants. The plant I am
using is poplar.  I appreciate any information you can provide.
