Two years ago a plant information database of life history attributes was
initiated at Oregon State University. The database was designed for
rangeland plant species, but the architecture of the database was designed
from its inception using global plant parameter ranges.

The database has 41 attributes and 381 entries (with embedded reference
citations). The attributes are grouped into 5 major categories:

	1. Development
	2. Reproduction
	3. Habitat
	4. Tolerance, Succession & Trend
	5. Disturbance & Competition

The GOAL of the database is to consolidate plant species information (via
the internet highway) for research and management tools & communication.
Through e-mail and internet pathways there is a veritable pluethera of
information in the hands of students, professors, scientists, government
agencies, and independent research groups. However, the information is
limited to the extent of their research areas and/or objectives.

Consolidation of this information in the form of an on-line plant
information database will enable anyone to derive or submit specific plant
information and species characteristics. The spreadsheet/database format
of this database will enable users to query or sort information based on
their interest/objectives. But before this ideal becomes functional, MORE
INFORMATION (database input) is necessitated.

How do we get people to add their information to the database?
Perhaps YOU have some information you'd like to add?

Thanks for your time and consideration.
