There are FOUR Postgraduate Studentships available in the following subject 
areas:

1.  Molecular Analysis of Genetic Diversity in Oil Palm  (BBSRC CASE award with
 Plant Breeding International Cambridge) supervised by Professor P D S
Caligari and Dr P Jack.  Start October 1997

2.  Manipulation of Oxalate in Relation to Cell Wall Composition (BBSRC
Special CASE award on Raw Material Quality, with ZENECA plc) supervised by
Professor J M Dunwell.  Start October 1997

3.  Weed Management in Integrated Farming Systems (MAFF/LINK Integrated
Farming Systems, with ADAS) supervisors Dr R J Froud Williams and Dr N E
Jones.  Start April 1997

4.  Weed Seed Predation by Beneficial Invertebrates in Integrated Farming
Systems (MAFF CASE with Game Conservancy Trust) supervisors Dr R J Froud
Williams, Dr N D Boatman and Dr J M Holland.  Start October 1997


The Department of Agricultural Botany, as part of the School of Plant
Sciences, received the highest rating (5*) for research excellence in the
latest Research Assessment Exercise.  We are, therefore, looking for
highly motivated, academically able students to participate in the above
3 year PhD projects.  Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a 1st or
2i degree (or equivalent) and be UK based.
