Urine sterilizes soil, how?

I doubt that this is accurate. A lack of plant life does not make a soil
"sterile", and therein may lie part of the answer. Perhaps a species
of fungi, or bacteria, or protist, etc. that has an affinity for dog
urine (or its components) is being provided with an environment
for massive reproduction. Add to this scenario the exudation of
inhibitory to plant life.....and BINGO.....no grass grows.........

A screening of microbial life in the "dead patch" might provide clues...
