clivias are just as many other of the most beautiful bulbous ornamentals of 
south african origin (ie glads, cystanthus.....). try the dept of plant 
production and soil science and horticulture of the uni of pretoria in SA. 
there was a guy that did a masters on flower promotion during 1997/8. you could 
also try and speak to someone at the NBI (national botanical institute) in cape 
town or pta, there is quite an active clivia club there. stefaans
