Maple

I've noticed recently that the maple trees in my area (St. Charles Co.,
MO) don't seem to be producing many seeds lately.  What few there are,
won't germinate.
Some don't have any seeds in them at all, just the little wings.
Does anyone know what's going on?  When I was a kid, we had a silver
maple in
the back yard that produced seeds in huge quantities, and they sprouted
all over the
place.  Now that I'd like to grow a few maple seedlings, to maybe plant
in my yard,
I can't find any viable seeds anywhere.

I have a small "Amur maple" (I think that's what it's called) and it's
seeds
won't grow at all.
