Need Mutation Help

I am doing a project for Biology, involving the artificially induced mutation of a house plant.

I have heard of several complex chemical, as well as physical, mutation techniques, 
but simply need a simple, proven method to induce any random, visible mutation.
    Even a decent book on the subject would be helpful, my school library is quite lame.
Any help at all will be appreciated, and I'll surely compensate you for your time and or resources.
