Hydroxyiminoacetone should be easy to prepare from hydroxylamine HCl and
acetone. See a related procedure in J.Org. Chem. 55(12), p 3740 (synthesis
of compound 9), 1990. Any hydroximate functional group can be easily
followed on TLC with ferric chloride, which gives a pink-brown stain.
