Tripp,

you might want to check out Hager and Burgess (1970) Anal. Biochem.
109:76-86.  They describe a method for KCl staining of proteins that might
be easier to get rid of than the coomassie.  I've used their method for a
protein that I was interested in and had pretty good luck.  The only thing
is they use passive elution, but I'm sure that it should work with
electroelution as well.
