CNSM Description

POSITION: ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR.

EFFECTIVE DATE: August, 1999.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in a biological science with training and
research experience in the area of marine microbiology.  The successful
candidate must have a record of published research and is expected to show
potential for developing and sustaining an independent, externally funded
research program involving students that will lead to scientific
publication.  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching in marine
microbiology and general microbiology as well as the ability to communicate
effectively with an ethnically diverse campus community are required.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Post-doctoral research experience.
Research expertise in the use of molecular techniques for studying marine
microbial processes.  Prior successful teaching at the post-secondary level.

DUTIES: Teach Marine Microbiology, General Microbiology, and upper
division/graduate specialty courses.  Supervise undergraduate and graduate
(M.S.) student research.  Develop and sustain an independent, externally
funded research program involving students and leading to scientific
presentation and publications.  Research start-up funds are available.  The
successful candidate will be expected to participate in activities serving
the department, university and community.

SALARY RANGE: $37,956 - $60,480.
