A two-year, NSF-funded POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
available at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, starting on
about 1 September 2001, to conduct research on the systematic
and evolution of certain groups of green algae and protozoa. The
goals are to produce species-level monographic treatments of these
organisms, and to understand patterns of gene sequence evolution
the context of organismal phylogeny. The anticipated tasks for the
postdoctoral researcher are to amplify and sequence selected genes
from targeted organisms, conduct phylogenetic analyses on these
sequences, and integrate these analyses with those from other classes
of data. Candidates with an earned doctorate in the biological
sciences should be demonstrably proficient in PCR-based DNA sequencing
methods, and in the principles and techniques of phylogenetic
analysis. Prior experience in protistan systematic biology is highly
desirable, as is experience with Internet-based data dissemination.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Curriculum vitae, the names of three references, and a brief cover
letter with a one-paragraph statement of the candidate's professional
experiences and objectives, should be sent to: Dr. Charles J.
O'Kelly, Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, P. O. Box 475, West
Boothbay Harbor, ME 04575, USA; fax +1 207 633 9641, email
cokelly at bigelow.org. Electronic submissions are encouraged. The
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is an Equal Opportunity
