Animal or plant cell physiologists as

1 Project Group Leader
1 Postdoc

To study the physiology and cell biology of the human malaria
parasite
Plasmodium falciparum.

The Department of Parasitology, University of Heidelberg, is inviting
applications for two positions in the physiology group. The main
focus
of these positions will be to join projects into metabolite transport,
drug resistance phenomena, protein targeting, as well as
Ca2+-signalling, using fluorescence live cell microscopy. We are
interested in candidates with a strong background in animal or plant
cell physiology and experience with single cell measurements of pH and
Ca2+, using video imaging and confocal microscopy. Previous experience
with GFP-fusion proteins and genetically encoded probes for pH and
Ca2+ would also be an advantage. The group is in newly refurbished
labspace and equipped with a Zeiss LSM510 confocal microscope, as well
as a video fluorescence imaging system, both for single cell
measurements under physiological conditions. Candidates for the group
leader position (5 years) should have previous postdoctoral experience
and will be paid according to BAT IIa/Ib with the possibility for
Habilitation and with support staff and financial backing available.
The postdoctoral position (BAT IIa) will initially be for a period of
2 years and would be suitable for candidates having recently obtained
their PhD. Applications should be send to: Prof. Dr. Michael Lanzer,
Abteilung Parasitologie, Im Neuenheimer Feld 324, 69120 Heidelberg,
Germany. email: michael_lanzer at med.uni-heidelberg.de.
