Novartis Gets Second Patent For Genetically
               Enhanced Wheat

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Novartis Corp. (NVTSY) received a =
second
U.S. patent for genetically enhanced wheat.

In a press release Tuesday, the Swiss pharmaceutical compa=
ny said the latest
patent covers a method of introducing genes for improved a=
gronomic traits, such
as insect or disease resistance, into wheat plants.

As reported, Novartis received an initial patent for genet=
ically modified wheat in
January. The technology used in the initial patent is also=
 used to insert new
               genetic traits into wheat.

Both patents were issued based on biotech research discove=
ries conducted by
the former Ciba Seeds, which merged with Northrup King Co.=
 in January to
form Novartis' Novartis Seeds Inc. unit.

Food scientists' responsibility may now be to develop methods and process=

crops forced to "molecularly" evolve without choice... =20

Let's think about it!

Enjoy the news,
