To whom it may concern,

Recently (January 30, 2000), Central Europe was exposed to one of the
worst environmental disasters since Chernobil, due to a Cyanide spill
originated from Romania. Specifically, The Tisza (Hungary), and the
Danube (the Yugoslavian/Vojvodinian and Bulgarian section) rivers were
affected. Although, the ^Óshort term^Ô damages were caused by cyanide,
there are also very serious long term environmental hazards due to the
metal byproducts of the "Aurul" gold mine.

Even more recently, there was another spill as damaging as the previous
one, in some aspects more devastating, because it deposited heavy metals
and now destroyed even the upper part of Tisza river which before was
not
polluted by the 1st spill. So now Tisza is COMPLETELY destroyed as of
this Friday (March 10, 2000)!

Besides the environmental disaster aspect of this issue, it is also
worth
noting the catastrophic environmental situation of Romania as a whole,
and
the careless attitude of the Romanian government regarding environmental
issues. Since environmental catastrophe knows no borders, this issue
needs
to be seriously considered and exemplified WORLDWIDE. Moreover,
International Environmental Treaties, Laws, and Actions are an enormous
shortcoming of Central / Eastern Europe. Therefore one of the major
demands of this demonstration is the lobbying for such treaties, laws,
and
actions in that part of the world as well as all over the world. With
this
occasion I would like to invite all parties interested and concerned
regarding this issue, to ORGANIZE / PARTICIPATE IN A DEMONSTRATION in
Washington DC in front of the Romanian Embassy. ** Special invitation
for
those who relate to the affected countries, such as
Romania/Transylvania,
Hungary, Yugoslavia/Vojvodina, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, and the
European Union. **

[This invitation is mainly for a demonstration to take place in
Washington
DC, but those concerned about our environment should feel free to
organize
as many demonstrations around the world as possible ...]
