Just a point of clarification on "pet store". We have used pet shop
owners for referrals to people who might qualify to take an older axolotl
under our adopt an axolotl program. Pet store owners are quite
cooperative since they get to sell the foster parent the equipment for
housing the animals. You can't just give the animal to a pet store to sell
under Canadian Council on Animal Care Regulations although one of the
local pet stores qualified by having an educational display of animals
not for sale in his store. We have also used the same adopt an axoltol
program to retire older adults on our local zoo with great success. If
anyone would like further information on how to set up an adopt an
axolotl program I'd be happy to share our CCAC approved protocol.
