Someone recently asked about smallpox virus. This virus has
no reservoir in nature except man. Wipe out all disease- there are
no persistent infections with smallpox- and you wipe out the virus,
pure and simple. Thus, the only smallpox virus left is in the
freezers at CDC in Washington and somewhere in Russia. There is
currently a debate about whether it is wise to destroy these stocks
given that unforeseen circumstances might warrant further laboratroy
study of this agent.
