                           Second Announcement

Dear Members of the Intermountain Branch of the American Society for
Microbiology and others who are interested in microbiology:

This is the second announcement of the annual meeting of the
Intermountain Branch of the American Society of Microbiology to be held
on the campus of Utah State University at Logan, Utah on April 20,
1996.  Registration will be at 8:00 A.M. and the first papers will be
presented at 9:00 A.M.  A luncheon will follow, along with the Branch
business meeting and the Foundation for Microbiology Lecture.  As in
the past the dues will be $2.00.  A lunch will be served in conjunction
with the business meeting and will cost $7.45 per person. 
Preregistration is strongly encouraged.  For those of you that are not
on our mailing list (never have attended this meeting or are not yet
members of the national ASM), please email me (honery at cc.usu.edu) with
your postal address and we will send you the registration and abstract
forms immediately by conventional mail. 

The Foundation Lecturer will be Dr. Michael M.C. Lai, Professor of
Microbiology and Neurology at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at
the Southern California University of Medicine.  The title of his
presentation will be " How a virus enters cells; receptors and other
molecules".  In addition, he will be on campus Friday, April 19 to give
a seminar on the molecular biology of hepatitis delta virus or
coronavirus.  On Friday, April 19, Dr. Joseph Li of Utah State
University will also host Dr. Lai at a reception at Dr. Li's home (1575
E 1325 N Logan, Utah).   Should you be interested in meeting Dr. Lai at
that time, please RSVP with Dr. Li (801-797-1914).
