Hello! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I am a student doing research on the retrovirus and its applications
to gene therapy. I am interested in how the retrovirus compares as a
vector to other organisms or methods used for gene transfer and also
the future prospects for the retrovirus in gene therapy. I have been
looking into a few clinical trials using this vector ie. ADA and would
appreciate any news on progress in this area as well.
So, if there is anyone who would be interested in answering a few
brief questions, your help would be greatly appreciated!!
P.S. How dangerous is the retrovirus when genetically altered and used
in gene therapy? How likely is that recombination would occur when the
DNA is integrated into the cellular DNA resulting in new, possibly
pathogenic virus offspring? For my final query(yes it is the last) I
am confused about the difference in the modes of reproduction of
different classes of viruses. Do all viruses (DNA, RNA and
retroviruses) insert their genetic information into the cellular DNA
or is it just the retroviruses that do this?
