actually, fluconazole, intraconazole and ketoconazole were all developed to
fight eukaryotic infections. They are used to treat giardia in humans and
valley fever (coccidia) in humans and animals. I tried them all to battle
valley fever in my cat, but the initial infection was too high and she died.
There can be serious side effects, mostly to the liver, from the keto form (
in dogs and cats at least). It is always tricky to kill a eukaryote inside
of another eukaryote by systemic rather than topical means
