For one perspective on science fairs, read "Among Schoolchildren"
by Tracy Kidder. It's about a year in the life of a teacher and her
class in an urban Massachusetts school. Her chapter on
the disparity of resources for kids in a science fair is quite
moving. After the fair, she swore never to participate in another.
