dressing down

I discovered in graduate school that the only people who dressed up (suit and
tie or heels and makeup) were sales reps.  And the general response to seeing
one coming down the hall was to run and hide!
I must admit that I now avoid denim, and dress a little better when I'm
lecturing, since the undergrads seem to expect it.
