As to calling the newsgroup women in science:
There is another newsgruop called "women in science and engineering" 
(actuallyit's a listserver), so we might be intruding on their name.  
Subscribing to both, I find it has a very different tone (if you think 
people get flamed here, you ought to try posting there!)
