female:male ratio in K-3 kids

This is something I've been wondering about for 16 years.  My son is 16 
years old.  When he was born there was one girl baby out of a dozen 
babies in the hospital nursery.  All of his age groups since (nursery 
school. Sunday school, Public school, Y classes, science museum classes, 
etc.) have been 2/3rds boys.  I thought maybe it wasa statistical 
phenomenon of his cohort or our location (big city Minnesota) but maybe not.
