Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, located in 
Blacksburg,
Virginia, has the following positions available:

LABORATORY SPECIALIST  (3428D)  Veterinary Medicine Experiment Station

Normal Starting Pay:  $20,976  (Grade 8)

Supports veterinary infectious disease research in a multi-user system,
with minimal supervision, by initiating and carrying out the development
and performance of diverse experiments and assays involving prokaryotic,
eukaryotic cells and animals and by compiling and analyzing the resulting
data according to specific instructions from the assigned investigator.
Emphasis in areas of general virology and biochemistry.  MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of microbiological and biochemical techniques
including tissue culture, viral cultivation and enzyme purification and
characterization;  knowledge of use of basic lab equipment and practices;
ability to work independently, organize and assume responsibility after
initial supervision; ability to work independently and to communicate
effectively with others; ability to organize and work on more than one
project simultaneously; ability to work with animals and handle
radioisotopes.  Must be able to be vaccinated with vaccinia.  WITH
PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR: Certified for radio-isotopes handling and experience
working in a BL-3 facility.  FULL-TIME POSITION. Application deadline:

LABORATORY SPECIALIST  (2605D)  Veterinary Medicine Experiment Station

Normal Starting Pay:  $20,976  (Grade 8)

Supports veterinary infectious disease research in multi-user system.
Initiates and carries out the development and performance of diverse
experiments and assays involving prokaryotic, eukaryotic cells and animals
by compiling and analyzing the resulting data according to specific
instructions from the assigned investigator.  Emphasis in areas of general
cell biology, immunology and microbiology.  Maintains
laboratory work areas, equipment and inventories. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of microbiological techniques including aseptic technique with
emphasis in immunology and tissue culture; knowledge of use of basic lab
equipment and practices; ability to work independently, organize and 
assume
responsibility after initial supervision; ability to work independently 
and
to communicate effectively with others; ability to organize and work on
more than one project simultaneously; ability to work with animals and
handle radioisotopes.  WITH PREFERENCE GIVEN FOR:  Certified in
radio-isotopes; experience handling class III pathogens.  FULL-TIME
POSITION.  Previously advertised, it is not necessary to reapply to be
