The Minnesota Extension Service is conducting a search for a Water 
Resources Education Coordinator to be officed in the BWSR Northern 
Regional Office in either Duluth or Brainerd MN.  This is a  100%-
time 18 month position with annual renewal based on program need, 
funding availability, performance, and results.  This position 
carries the University academic professional staff title of extension 
educator with extension academic rank.  The person in this position 
will serve the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources northern 
region of 42 counties to develop educational materials in cooperation 
with the Minnesota Extension Service.

 POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Water Resources Education Coordinator

LOCATION: Board of Water and Soil Resources regional office in either 
Duluth or Brainerd MN

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
This position will serve the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil 
Resources (BWSR) northern region, which includes 42 northern 
counties.  The person in this position will increase the capacity of 
BWSR staff, MES staff, and local government personnel to educate 
target audiences on water quality and related natural resource issues 
in the 42 county area of northern Minnesota.  

DESCRIPTION:
The primary responsibility of the person in this position will be to 
enable the staff of local government units, BWSR, and MES to educate 
their target audiences on water quality and related issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Determine the greatest needs for education on water resources 
issues using local water plans, MES needs assessment, and other 
information from BSWR staff, MES staff, and local government personnel

Develop and carry out an education work plan based on the needs 
assessment

Work with BWSR staff and the MES water quality leadership team to 
develop appropriate communications material, including written, audio-
visual, display, media outreach, etc.  The material will enable local 
governments to better educate their audiences

Research and make existing water quality education materials 
available to avoid duplication of efforts


ORGANIZATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:
    Administrative Relations: The person in this position will report 
to BSWR northern regional supervisor and the MES northeast district 
director.
    Appointment:  This is an annual appointment in the U of M 
academic professional staff category with the title of extension 
educator with extension academic rank (9624-9621).  This is an 
eighteen-month appointment which will be renewed annually based on 
program need, availability of funding, performance, and results.
     Travel:  Travel throughout the 42 county area will be 
necessary to perform the duties of this position.  The person in this 
position will use a BWSR-assigned state car.  Other travel will be 
reimbursed according to University policy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
!   Education.  A master's degree in geology, hydrology, agriculture, 
or a related field of science is required.

!   Experience.  Post-degree professional experience in informal 
education is required.  Professional experience working with county, 
state, and federal boards and agencies is highly preferred.
   
!   Skills and Abilities.  Excellent written and verbal communication 
skills are required. The ability to work in team relationships is required.
Skills in 
teaching and education program management are required.  Computer 
user skills in word processing preferred.

SALARY:  
Commensurate with experience and education.
