Protist Paleontology

The Museum of Paleontology, University of California, Berkeley, seeks
candidates for a full-time, 11-month Museum Scientist with knowledge of 
the chief groups of fossil protists, including foraminifera, radiolaria,
diatoms, and coccoliths in particular. Expertise on foraminifera highly
desirable.

Duties consist of curation of microfossils, management of the microfossil
collection and data, interactions with faculty, students, and visiting
researchers, consultation on exhibits and public outreach, and up to 20%
research on the paleobiology, evolution or systematics of foraminifera.

UCMP has the 2nd largest collection of fossils (microfossils, 
invertebrates,
plants, and vertebrates) in North America, including millions of microfossil
types, single mount slides, assemblage slides, and bulk and processed
samples in need of constant curation. The abilities to organize collections
from bulk samples through processed samples to slides, to input and 
maintain the microfossil database, to interact effectively with a wide variety 
of co-workers, researchers and students, to present an outreach 
component  utilizing microfossils, and to maintain an active and creative 
research program using the resources of UCMP are required. For

Invertebrate Paleontology

The University of California Museum of Paleontology (UCMP) seeks 
candidates for a full-time, 11-month Museum Scientist to oversee 
collection management and to pursue an active paleontological research 
program in the Invertebrate Section of the Museum.

Duties consist of curation of separate fossil, living, and type collections,
management of the invertebrate collection and data, interactions with
faculty, students, and visiting researchers, consultation on exhibits and
public outreach, and up to 20% research time. The successful candidates
research program may be in any area paleontology, with expectation of a
component of systematic expertise in a major group of fossil invertebrates
as well as an interest in questions at the cutting edge of paleontology.

The successful applicant will be expected to set collection management
priorities in the Invertebrate Section; to hire, train, and supervise
students in curation and data management; to stimulate collection 
growth; to maintain records and data bases; and to remain conversant in 
state-of-the art conservation practices.

In addition to a degree in the biological or earth sciences and research
experience in paleontology, the position requires comprehensive 
knowledge of collection management practices and facility with computer 
data bases. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous 
experience in curation of natural history collections. For additional
