BIOLOGY/VIROLOGY

ST. VINCENT'S INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL RESEARCH, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Three post-doctoral positions in structural biology and one in
molecular biology/virology are available at St. Vincent's Institute of
Medical Research in Melbourne, Australia (telephone +613-9288-2480, fax
+613-9416-2676).

Structural Biology:

1. Structural studies of HIV and other retroviral envelope proteins.
Experience in protein expression, purification, crystallization and
crystal structure determination is desirable.

2. Crystal structure determination of protein-ligand complexes of
phenylalanine hydroxylase, an enzyme with complex regulatory and
catalytic properties. Experience in X-ray crystallography is
desirable.

3. Molecular modelling and experimental testing of substrate
specificity of protein kinases. Experience in molecular modelling and
molecular biology is desirable.

Inquires to Dr. Bostjan Kobe (e-mail
b.kobe at medicine_stvin.unimelb.edu.au).

Molecular biology/virology:

Structure/function studies of chemokine receptors, co-receptors for
HIV. Experience in molecular biology and protein expression and
purification is desirable. Inquires to Dr. Andy Poumbourios (e-mail
a.poumbourios at medicine.unimelb.edu.au).

Salaries will be according to qualifications and experience. The
positions are available from January 1998.

St. Vincent's Institute is a part of St. Vincent's hospital complex and
is affiliated with University of Melbourne. Facilities include
state-of-the-art equipment for X-ray cryo-crystallography (two MAR
image plate detectors), molecular graphics and computation, mass
spectrometry, protein sequencing, peptide synthesis, dynamic light
scattering, protein purification, molecular biology and other
techniques.

Melbourne has been voted the world's most livable city and is also the
science capital of Australia. The institute is situated on the edge of
the City Business District, with excellent access to public transport,
restaurants, parks and entertainment.
