Postdoctoral Positions at the Structural Biology Laboratory,
School of Biological Sciences, Auckland, New Zealand

Ted and Heather Baker
Clyde Smith
Peter Metcalf

The new structural biology laboratory in the School of Biological
Sciences has recently been completed, and postdoctoral positions are now
available for two year periods starting in 1998. We are looking for
people with protein expression and crystallographic skills who are
motivated to work in an enjoyable cooperative group with up to twenty
people. Projects include mammalian binding proteins, insect
communication proteins, bacterial toxins and heat stable enzymes
(Bakers) ATP-dependent enzymes (Smith) and Leishmania and Malarial
antigens and intracelluar transport proteins (Metcalf).

The new laboratory has ample space and is well equipped for molecular
biology, protein chemistry and crystallisation,
and crystallographic computing. A Rigaku X-ray generator with two Mar345
detectors with cryo systems will be available for data collection. The
School of Biological Sciences is a stimulating environment and provides
additional facilities for molecular biology and protein
characterisation.

Auckland has an excellent climate, with good beaches and opportunities
for surfing and yachting and other outdoor activities. Child care is
provided by the university and good quality schooling is readily
accessible.
