                      CRYSTALLOGRAPHER AT

The Biology Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking an
experienced macromolecular crystallographer to operate an important
research facility at beamline X25 of the National Synchrotron Light

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, or other
discipline related to crystallography. He or she should have extensive
experience in macromolecular crystallography and use of software for
macromolecular crystallography, especially software for data collection and
data reduction.  He or she must be familiar with synchrotron x-ray research
in general, and must have good teaching skills. 

Additional capabilities could include: extensive experience with
synchrotron instrumentation, experience in mechanical / electronic
experimentation (both design and construction of apparatus), the writing
of software, and operating system maintenance. 

The research program will involve the continued development and operation
of NSLS beamline X25 for macromolecular crystallography.  This scientist
will have a technician to supervise, and time will be available for
independent or collaborative research.  In this regard the scientist will
be able to join the Brookhaven Human Proteomics project. Work will be in
collaboration with Lonny Berman and Malcolm Capel, and will be under the
direction of Robert M. Sweet.
