The Protein Crystallography and Engineering Group within the Research
School of Chemistry, headed by Dr David Ollis, is looking to recruit a
technical officer for permenant employment.

The successful applicant will be involved in a research projects that
involves enzyme engineering as well as protein structure and function.
Duties will include the use of recombinant DNA technology to express both
proteins and stable domains, as well as using these techniques to produce
mutant proteins as part of a study in directed evolution.  Some knowledge
of the isolation and characterisation of proteins is highly desirable.

Applicants should have a BSc in molecular biology and/or biochemistry. A
proven experimental background in molecular biology and/or biochemistry is
essential.  Familiarity with recombinant DNA techniques and experience in
chromatographic instrumentation is also essential.

Salary will be at ANU officer grade 6 (A$ 38,462 - 41,294) or grade 7 (A$
42,239 - 45,641) commensurate with experience.  Closing date 10th July
1998.
