Pantherix is a young and dynamic biopharmaceutical company, now in the
process of expansion and soon to be based on the West of Scotland Science
Park in Glasgow. The company will discover and design antimicrobials
directed at novel protein targets in bacteria using a combination of
techniques including X-ray crystallography, computer modelling,
combinatorial chemistry and screening to identify promising lead compounds
for drug development.

As part of our increasing commitment to structural biology, a position has
arisen for an enthusiastic protein crystallographer to join the drug
discovery team. The successful applicant will contribute to the
elucidation of the structures of target proteins and of protein-inhibitor
complexes. The ideal candidate will have a background in data acquisition
and modern structure solution and refinement techniques. Experience of
protein purification and crystallisation would also be an advantage. The
position would suite a crystallographer keen to develop their career in
the area of structure-based drug design with the flexibility and
communication skills to flourish in an inter-disciplinary team of
biologists and chemists.

The position will initially be based in Leicester, and it is envisaged
that the post will transfer to the Company's purpose-built laboratories
late in 1999.

Those who wish to apply for the for the position should send a curriculum
vitae, with salary expectations and the names of three referees, to Amanda
Bairstow, at the Company's present headquarters: PanTherix Limited,
Maurice Shock Building, PO Box 138, University Road, Leicester LE1 9HN, to
arrive no later than the 22nd January 1999. Informal inquiries may be
made by telephone (0116-252-5675) or facsimile (0116-252-5673), or by
email ajb55 at leicester.ac.uk
