Title: Dynamics Engineer - Biological Systems Modeler
Location: Menlo Park CA
Company: Entelos
Job Number. GJ410
Company_Description:

Entelos, Inc. is pioneering a new class of computer-based tools called
PhysioLabs - mathematical models
of complex, chronic diseases. Built in collaboration with leading scientists
and clinicians from many
disciplines, PhysioLabs help pharmaceutical researchers identify and
prioritize the best therapeutic and
diagnostic strategies for tackling complex, chronic, and degenerative
diseases.

The company's vision is to apply advanced engineering principles to problems
in biology and medicine.
Entelos' technology foundations were built over the past 8 years working
with pharmaceutical customers.
Its core capabilities include biological systems modeling, software
engineering, life sciences, and an
international network of technical, scientific, and clinical advisors.

JobDescription:

We have job openings on our Biological Systems Modeling team. The ideal
candidate will have:

A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Chemical
Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
Passion for learning and innovation in a multidisciplinary, entrepreneurial
environment ú Strong interest in biology
Coursework and/or research in control theory (classical and modern)
Ability to translate messy real world problems into compelling mathematical
models ú Experience in developing complex algorithms (any language)
Background in problem formulation using advanced analytical software tools
(e.g., Mathematica)
An interest in teaching with significant experience in academic or
professional settings
Experience in working with advisers/consultants, or academic collaborations.
The primary responsibility for the Biological Systems Modeler position
initially will be the translation of dynamic biological processes into
systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. This translation
involves working within extended research teams (other modelers, Entelos
life scientists, and outside advisors) to integrate broad multidisciplinary
data regarding the many biological systems that play a role in a particular
disease. Using proprietary Entelos methodology and software, the modeler
designs mathematical structures which (1) are consistent with the known data
regarding isolated biological elements, and (2) when integrated give rise to
the complex behaviors consistent with integrated biological systems in both
healthy and disease states. The Modeler's responsibilities will continue to
evolve in the levels of complexity as the person works in this position. One
of the requirements necessitates reading and distilling a great number of
scientific journal articles. Participation in and leading various types of
development and review meetings, documenting research in both electronic
notebooks and presentations, and working with both Entelos advisors and
customers to develop, refine, and explain the models is an essential part of
this position. Additionally Modelers will participate in the formulation of
research plans with Entelos management and be responsible for model
development. Modelers are also expected to participate in a number of
ongoing internal efforts to establish and document the guidelines for best
practices for all of Entelos Research and Development efforts.
