Mutagenesis and structure-function studies of E.
coli nitroreductase: optimisation for gene

A BBSRC Industrial CASE Studentship (under the
supervision of Dr Chris Wrighton of COBRA
Therapeutics and Dr Eva Hyde at the School of
Biosciences, University of Birmingham) is
available immediately for three years. The student
will join a group studying the structure and mode
of action of the enzyme nitroreductase and its use
in cancer gene therapy (with Dr Peter Searle,
Dept. Cancer Studies, University of Birmingham).
Techniques to be used include mutagenesis, protein
design, calorimetry, stopped-flow enzyme kinetics
and NMR spectroscopy. Candidates must have a first
class or upper second class degree in
Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related subject, or
equivalent, and have a relevant connection to the
U.K.. For further details and applications forms,
