Crystallization: focus on membrane proteins
The workshop will cover different crystallization methods from the most
standard vapor diffusion methods to more advanced techniques. A short
introduction to the crystallization process will be followed by a series of
hands-on experiments. Participants will be able to crystallize there own PSI
and PSII proteins and use the lipid cubic phase to crystallize their own
samples. The goal is for all participants to be able to try out the
different methods under discussion. Two topics will be covered:
- Soluble Proteins
Myrka Dauter Vapor diffusion - heavy atom soaks
Marie Claude Marchand Vapor diffusion techniques - seeding techniques
Naomi Chayen Microbatch and Containerless oil techniques
Ana Merlo Counter diffusion Mehtods.
Zbigniew Dauter Heavy atom soaking and strategies.
- Membrane Proteins
Petra Fromme PSI and PSII
Peter Nollert Lipid Cubic Phase
Naomi Chayen Crystallisation in oil
The workshop is limited to 20 participants due to its hand on character. It
is on a first come first serve basis. Participants are welcome to bring
their own samples.
All participants of this workshop need a VALID BNL GUEST NUMBER since the
workshop will take place on the experimental floor. Please make sure to
register for both: the workshop and to obtain a valid BNL Guest appointment.
Due to increased site security foreing nationals need to allow at least 30
days for security clearance.
