Quite recently appeared a nice work by   

                               G.VRIEND and C.SANDER
named

      QUALITY CONTROL OF PROTEIN MODELS: DIRECTIONAL ATOMIC CONTACT ANALYSIS

published in the JOURNAL OF APPLYED CRYSTALLOGRAPHY (1993)
                 volume 26 pages 47-60.

In that work the Authors revised all the currently used approaches to 
estimate the quality of a structure, and as well introduce a new method.
I suggest it to anybody interested in the field.
