You can find binary executables for DSSP for several machine types 
in the pub/software/unix/dssp of both sunbcd.weizmann.ac.il and 
felix.embl-heidelberg.de available by both anonymous ftp and gopher.

Here's a note from the README file there:

The accompanying executable is a test version of the
program DSSP by Wolfgang Kabsch and Chris Sander.

The test version produces correct output, but will expire
in early 1993 at which time a new version will become 
available.

Apply to Sander at embl-heidelberg.de (Chris Sander) for 
an academic or commercial license for the 1993 version.
