Dimercury acetate synthesis anyone?

For the purposes of preparing heavy atom derivatives we would
like to synthesize dimercury acetate. Sprang and Fletterick
(J. Mol. Biol. (1979), 131, 523-551) report what seems to be a 
simple procedure for doing this. However the compound they prepare
is of low purity. Has anyone improved on their method, or does a 
superior synthesis exist ? Any help would be appreciated.
