It is not unusuial, even if it is not common. Especially the mother liquid
contained some volatile additive(s) such as ethanol or acetone. Some crystal
decayed only after one shot of X-ray.
Sometimes it can be improved by transfer to the stabilizing mother liquid which
normally contains higher preciptant than growing mother liquid. eg, when a
crytal grown from 50% AS, try 60% or more AS as far as crystal stable.

ps. Kathleen, could you reply me if you can receive the repry mail, since I
have a little doubt on reachability.

Hi,

I have grown very nice crystals in PEG but as soon as I mount them
in a capillary the crystal gets surrounded by liquid. Although the
crystals shape stays intact in the capillary, the diffraction is nihil
after an hour.
Does this looks familiar to anyone? How can I improve the stability of the
crystals?
