Postdoctoral position in protein crystallography at Sydney

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the research group
of Dr Mitchell Guss in the Department of Biochemistry of the University
of Sydney to study the structures of human enzymes involved in the degradation
of glycosaminoglycans. The work is a collaboration with the research group
of Professor John Hopwood at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide.
The enzymes are being expressed in large quantities for enzyme replacement
therapy as a treatment for a number of genetic lysosomal storage diseases.
Good crystals of one enzyme have been obtained. As well as work on the other
enzymes of the pathway we intend to study a number of substrate analogue
and inhibitor complexes.

The candidate should have experience in crystal structure determination.
Work with macromolecules would be an advantage but is not essential. The
position is funded from a three year grant from the Australian Research
Council and the appointment will be for one year in the first instance with
the possibility of renewal for up to a further two years.
