Hmm this is a bit tricky. David Blow wrote a paper on Non-Crystallographic
symmetry in Crystallographic Computing Techniques (1975) (the proceedings of an
IUCR summer school) which covers this in part. There are several good older
reviews on the symmetry of oligomeric proteins ( see for example Matthews and
Bernhard (1973) Ann. Rev. Biophys. Bioengng. 2. 257-).
