The Biotechnology Group at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation
Laboratory (SSRL, a division of SLAC) has an opening for a Scientific
& Engineering Associate I to assist in the running of x-ray
crystallography research facilities.
The S&EA will assist in the operation and maintenance of these
facilities which include computer-controlled instrumentation, x-ray
optics and detectors, cryogenic systems, and data processing software.
The S&EA will assist and train visiting scientists. The candidate will
participate in further development of this instrumentation with
responsibilities in design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and
testing. He/she will initially participate in the
construction/commissioning of two new experimental stations.
The candidate should have a B.S. degree or equivalent (as well
as demonstrated experience) in a scientific, engineering or technical
field and have good written & verbal communication skills. A technical
understanding of electronics and mechanical instrumentation and recent
experience in mechanical component design and assembly are required.
Previous experience with computer systems is also required. Position is
for an initial period of two years, with possibility of extension based
on performance. Salary, $43K - $55K, determined by previous experience.
