Dyna-Pro software

Hi guys,

I'd like to have some information on the Dyna-Pro-801 molecular sizing
instrument. This machine uses dynamic light scattering to determine
particle size in a sample. It should be possible to detect if the protein
I want to crystallize is nicely monomeric, or if it forms (micro-)
aggregates. Jim Rini at the Dept. of Medical Biophysics at the University
of Toronto has purchased one of these machines, and he told me that they
do not use the Dyna-Pro a lot, because it is difficult to calibrate, and
small contaminations of varying size tend to make the sample
poly-disperse, if so, you only see noise.....
It would be easier to use the output data (the so-called auto-correlation
coefficient) to plot a distribution of molecular weight vs. ratio. Jim has
seen publications where these plots are provided, but the software he uses
doesn't seem to be able to calculate this. Do you know of any available
software that can calculate such a mW plot from the output of this
machine? Or maybe you have a lot of experience with these kind of things?
Jim told me to also mention that his Dyna-Pro uses a single detector at an
angle of 90 degrees.

Thanks, Flip
