Research Scientist

There is a 2 year, fixed term vacancy for a Research Scientist to work
within the structural biology research programme at Daresbury
Laboratory. The project is to study structure-function relationships in
the molybdopterin enzyme DMSO reductase. A high resolution X-ray
structure of the enzyme has been determined in various redox states and
this study will continue. The structure and activity of a number of
site-directed mutants of the enzyme will be investigated and a programme
of work to look at the kinetics of the native enzyme and the mutants is
also planned. If the candidate wishes, a short period will be spent
working with collaborators in Brisbane, Australia.

Daresbury Laboratory has excellent facilities for biochemistry,
molecularbiology, computing and data collection and provides a
stimulating interdisciplinary research environment. The laboratory is
situated in pleasant countryside, but has good access to the cities of
Manchester and Liverpool.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD degree with experience in one or
more of the following discplines: protein crystallography, protein
purification, enzyme assays, molecular biology.

Starting salary will be in the Band 5 range 14,828 - 24,233 UK pounds
depending on qualifications and experience. There is a non-contributory
superannuation scheme.
