Research Associate position is available in the Macromolecular
Structure Group at the Biotechnology Research Institute, Montreal,
Canada. The Group is part of the Montreal Joint Centre for Structural
Biology, a consortium of universities, BRI and industrial partners in the
Montreal area. The research activities of the group focus on structural
characterization of proteins by crystallography to gain detailed
understanding of their mode of action. Current interests are in proteins
involved in signal transduction and apoptosis, proteolytic enzymes,
tetrahydrofolate converting enzymes and glycosaminoglycans degrading
enzymes. The successful candidate will participate in protein purification,
crystallization and structure determination. Involvement with cloning and
mutagenesis will be strongly encouraged.

The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry,
protein crystallography or chemistry. Previous experience in a protein
crystallography laboratory is an asset. Experience in protein purification
and some practical knowledge of molecular biology methods is desirable.
Our laboratory is very well equipped for all aspects of structural work.
There are several area detectors, a network of a large number of graphics
workstations and servers, very good facilities for protein purification
and crystallization. The group includes several macromolecular
crystallographers, technicians and a computer specialist. McGill protein
crystallography group is located on the same floor. There are many
interactions with the NMR and computational chemistry groups in the
Institute. BRI provides a challenging environment which promotes
collaborative work within the Institute while participation in the Montreal
Joint Center for Structural Biology facilitates broad range of external

Montreal is a vibrant, multicultural city with many cultural, social and
recreational activities. Excellent restaurants with variety of ethnic
food, charm of the Old Montreal, famous summer jazz festival, good
cross-country and downhill skiing in the winter within 45 min from the city
and excellent biking paths in the summer. For more information contact:
