Post-Doctoral Research Associate
Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral Research Associate to
work on elucidating the 3-dimensional structure of the important
binding domains of dystrophin and utrophin. Utrophin has very similar
properties to dystrophin, the product of the DMD gene mutated in the
Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies and this analysis will
provide insight into their structures and utrophin's potential role as
a therapy for these muscular dystrophies. We have almost finished
determining the atomic structure of the N-terminal actin-binding
domain of utrophin. The project is funded by the Muscular Dystrophy
Group of Great Britain and is a joint collaboration between Dr John
Kendrick-Jones, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge and Dr
Steven Winder, Institute of Cell and Molecular Biology, Edinburgh. The
successful candidate should have appropriate experience in
crystallographic techniques and data analysis and will join two active
research groups whose interests range from clinical genetics through
molecular biology to cell biology and analysis of protein structure
and function.
The post, which will be based primarily in Cambridge, is available
from the 10th February 1998 for two years in the first instance with a
salary on the Research Associate Band 4/3 scale £15,160 - £22,785.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr John Kendrick-Jones (01223
402409) or Dr Steven Winder (0131 650 7065). Applications with three
copies of CV and the names and addresses of two referees should be
sent, quoting reference JKJ/SW to: Sheila Jenkins, Personnel Officer,
MRC Centre, Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 2QH, UK. Closing Date 10th
December1997. The Medical Research Council is an Equal Opportunity
Employer
