The MACROMOLECULAR CRYSTALLOGRAPHY FACILITY (beamline 5.0) at the
Advanced Light Source has recently been commissioned and has begun to
initiate a user program for biological crystallography. The MCF
presently consists of a multipole wiggler, collimating mirror,
double-crystal monochromator, and toroidal refocussing mirror, along
with a kappa-geometry camera, 2x2 array CCD detector, and low
temperature system, and is optimized for multiple-wavelength anomalous
diffraction measurements. The computational environment is set up for
high throughput of data collection and data processing. A second
beamline, utilizing the same wiggler, is under development with
participation from industrial, academic, and national laboratories.
